Merry Christmas

Winter 2006 20 x 24 inches acrylic on canvas
I know this holiday wish is a couple of days late, but it is still Christmas until the New Year. I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year to come. It saddens me to see people who want to make the Christmas season end on the 26th. I wish we could keep the Christmas spirit all year long. For me the Christmas decorations stay on until the 2nd week of January. This is the birth of our LORD, lets rejoice and celebrate this season.

A view from across the Ali Wai Canal

Across the Canal 8 x 10 inches acrylic on canvas
This is looking across the waters of the Ali Wai Canal in Waikiki Honolulu. It was a cloudy morning with a warm misty rain gently caressing the distant blue mountains. This is such a beautiful place!

Samoan Girl

Samoan Girl 30 x 34 inches acrylic on canvas 2009
On the island of Oahu, there is a institution known as the Polynesian Cultural Center. The center provides an entertaining and educational experience of many Pacific Island cultures. Each culture is represented by young people attending nearby Brigham Young University. This painting is of a young Samoan hula dancer. I took several liberties as this is not an individual person, but a composite of several girls from Samoa. The beach and distant islands (the Mokuluas), are of Lanikai Beach.

An older gauche painting from 1984. I think that the simple primary color scheme works well here.

Red Head Woman

"redhead in a formal dress" 18 x 28 inches acrylic on canvas

A really beautiful painting of a red haired woman with rich color and abstract curves. The photo does not even come close to the actual color. This is one of my favorites.

Sandy Beach - Oahu, Hawaii

Sandy Beach 20 x 28 inches acrylic on canvas 2009
This is a new painting of one of my favorite beaches on Oahu. This beach is literally called "Sandy Beach". It is known for having some of the roughest shore breaking waves. The views of black lava rock cliffs and powerful waves are absolutely breath taking.

Three sisters

three sisters 12 x 20 inches acrylic on canvas 2009
All over the Hawaiian Islands, there are parks that are surrounded by masonry rock walls. These stone fences are made of the volcanic rock found locally. The large stones at the base of these palm trees are volcanic and are scattered through out the Hawaiian landscape. I was struck by the majesty of these three palms and began to wonder about their origin. Some time long ago, these three beauties were little seedlings amongst the rocks. Were they purposely placed here by human ancestors? Or did the hand of God place them in such a way?

Oahu palms

Oahu palms 24 x 33 inches acrylic on canvas
Another new painting from Hawaii. I really like the clouds and sky in this painting. I tend look up a lot when I am walking around the island. The tall palms and puffy clouds against the deep blue skies, are enchanting.

My latest painting is of a scene at Kahana Bay on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu. There is a road that follows the coastline just behind the trees on the right. The drive from Diamond Head to here is absolutely stunning.

woman in pink

"woman in pink" 21 x 27 inches acrylic on canvas 2005
Color is essential to all of my work. I tend to use vivid colorful harmonies in most of my paintings. I will admit that my color choices do not always please the retina, but I am continually striving to express myself with the use of color. I am always trying to create works were the color speaks. The first response from people when viewing my work is nearly always a comment about the color.

Abstract Nude Woman

standing nude woman 14 x 34 inches acrylic on canvas 2008
A new painting that I finished last week.....The last one for 2008. An abstract nude woman that has a very Art Deco feel. The background is full of heavy textured paint.
